Court lines and markings
The baselines and sidelines outline the court. The non-volley zone, also called the kitchen, extends 7 ft from the net on each side and spans the full 20 ft width. Behind each kitchen line, a centerline divides the remaining area into left and right service courts. All lines are 2 in (0.0508 m) wide.
Playing area and surrounding space
A 20 × 44 ft court is only the marked playing rectangle. The 2026 USA Pickleball rulebook specifies a minimum playing surface of 30 × 60 ft (9.144 × 18.288 m). For tournaments and new construction, it recommends 34 × 64 ft (10.3632 × 19.5072 m), which is the surrounding area shown in the diagram.
Dimensions and planning
Use these measurements as a reference, not as construction drawings. For court planning, consult current rules, local requirements and a qualified court designer. Surface colors and net shape are illustrative, not installation specifications.

Are singles and doubles pickleball courts the same size?
Yes. Both use a 20 × 44 ft court (6.096 × 13.4112 m), with the same sidelines, baselines and non-volley zones. Unlike tennis, pickleball has no doubles alleys.
How big is the kitchen on a pickleball court?
The kitchen is 7 ft deep and 20 ft wide on each side of the net (2.1336 × 6.096 m). The non-volley zone line is included in that depth. It marks the area where volleying is restricted.
How high is a pickleball net?
The net is 34 in (0.8636 m) high at the center and 36 in (0.9144 m) at the sidelines. These heights are measured at the net, not at the posts. The illustrated posts and net curve are not installation specifications.
How much space do you need for a pickleball court?
Allow at least a 30 × 60 ft playing surface, not just the 20 × 44 ft marked court. The 2026 USA Pickleball rulebook recommends 34 × 64 ft for tournament play and new construction. Confirm site-specific requirements before building.
